Some of the members of the Vardell Family gather in front of banner prior to Vardell Award presentation. Banner was a gift to the Flora Macdonald Legacy Foundation by former Red Springs resident Hunter Mathews and wife Verity Mathews, by Vardell Hall Alumna Barbara Todd Taylor and husband Will Taylor and Scottish country dancer Lynn Pezold. It was given in tribute to Co-chairs Rosalynde Gibson Cowdrey and Gaitley Stevenson-Mathews and to all the volunteers who helped organize and produce the Flora Macdonald Ball.

 Margaret Vardell Sandresky, granddaughter Amey Smyth (Great, great grandchild of Dr. of Charles G. and Linda Lee Vardell and Charles G. and Linda Lee Vardell) accepted matriarch of the Vardell family, addresses the Vardell Award along with her great aunt, the crowd after accepting the Vardell Margaret Vardell Sandresky. College alumna Gussie McDonald, Vardell Hall alumna Ginny Powers, and Marjory Jones of the Raleigh Scottish Country Dancers. Many others from the community also provided items for the table.
