CONVENIENCES

The following services are available for those attending the ball.  Please see note at bottom of this page concerning these conveniences.

Pre-Ball Dinner

(Sponsored by Flora Macdonald College Alumnae)

An informal picnic dinner on the front lawn of the Flora Macdonald Campus is being sponsored by Flora Macdonald College Alumnae and is available to alumnae and their guests as well as to the general public attending the Games and the Ball. The dinner is a hot meal and includes a choice of chicken or beef kabob, garlic mashed potatoes, seven layer salad, roll, an assortment of deserts and choice of either iced tea or lemonade.  Those purchasing a dinner ticket can eat anytime between the hours of 4:00 - 6:30 pm.  The meal will be served from a large tent near the front of the main building and those joining us are invited to find a comfortable spot on campus or in the gardens to enjoy their dinner.  While the deadline to order a dinner is Monday, September 25th, the alumnae organizing the meal ask that everyone try to get their orders in earlier if at all possible.  Please make a separate check payable to the Flora Macdonald Legacy Foundation and mail to  Gale Simpson Lewis, 127 Steeplechase Way, Southern Pines, NC 28387.  CLICK HERE for a print-friendly order form.  If you have further questions please contact Rebecca Williams Bracey at Gurneybecky@earthlink.net

A BIG THANK YOU to Rebecca Williams Bracey, Gale Simpson Lewis, and Jean Sessoms Snively for their efforts in coordinating this dinner.

Transportation

Vans will be available to shuttle individuals from the Country Inn and Suites (Exit # 20 off of Interstate 95 in Lumberton) and Quality Inn and Suites (Same exit) to the Flora Macdonald Campus during the evening of October 7th.  Round trip tickets are $12.00 per person and can ONLY be purchased at the front desk at the Country Inn and Suites beginning at 5:00 pm on Friday, October 6th and ending at 4:00 pm on October 7th.  This is the only time that tickets will be sold and they are being sold on a “space-available” basis --- so buy your tickets early!  In order to get patrons to the campus for the dinner (see info above for tickets) and the opening ceremonies of the ball, we have arranged several vans to transport individuals from the hotels at 4:55 pm (Quality Inn) and 5:05pm (Country Inn).  While there are three different times that you will be able to return to the hotels, there is only ONE trip scheduled to take you TO the ball on the Flora Macdonald Campus.  Therefore, don’t miss the 4:55 pm departure from Quality Inn and Suites or the 5:05 departure from the Country Inns and Suites and HOLD ON to your ticket or you will be charged an extra $7.00 on your return!  While anyone can ride the vans by paying the driver $7.00 (cash) each way, priority will be given to round trip ticket holders and they will board the bus first.  While patrons will be able to board the bus at Quality Inn and Suites or Country Inns and Suites, tickets are ONLY sold at the COUNTRY INNS AND SUITES.  The opportunity to board the bus on a “space available” basis will ONLY be offered at the Quality Inn and Suites.  See schedule below. We want to express our appreciation to Flora Macdonald Headmaster, Jonathan Good, and to the academy for helping with this project. Thank you!

Childcare

Thanks to the help of Jeanette Tiemissen we are able to provide childcare during the ball.  Mrs. Tiemissen, who is a childcare professional, has been caring for children many years and has arranged to have other adults helping with this service.  If planning to take advantage of this service, please contact Mrs. Tiemissen at: jmtet16@earthlink.net.  When contacting her please let her know the ages of the children and the number of children needing this service. Thank you Jeanette!

Changing Rooms

Changing rooms for men and women will be available on campus beginning at 5:30 pm.  While these rooms will be available for changing and you may leave things in the rooms, please note that the Flora Macdonald Ball nor Flora Macdonald Academy are responsible in the event of theft.  While we do not anticipate problems related to items left in the rooms, you might want to either return things to your vehicle or make sure no valuables are left in the room.  Many will want to bring their checkbooks or cash to purchase items available at the silent auction; however, you are encouraged to keep these items with you.

Showers

For those attending the ball, showers/changing rooms will be available at the Red Springs High School Gym located at 509 N. Vance Street from 3:30 pm until 6:30 pm. (Click on link at bottom of page for map).  While there is no additional fee for this service, you will need to sign-in when you arrive and a modest donation ($3.00-$5.00) is encouraged to help defer costs associated with this service.  Please note that the facility will CLOSE at 6:30 pm; therefore, you will need to allow time to shower, change, AND exit the building prior to this time.  Thank you!

Post-Ball Party

(Sponsored by Vardell Hall Alumnae)

For the night owls: Vardell Hall Alumnae have arranged an after party to be held at 11:30 pm – immediately after the ball’s conclusion (the singing of Auld Lang Syne).  As is the case with most after-parties, this is a very relaxed gathering of guests, the band, organizers, etc. – ALL are invited.  Because this is a VERY casual party, please feel free to change into more comfortable clothing.  We want to express our appreciation to Vardell Hall Alumnae for providing refreshments and a GARGANTUAN thank you to Janette Hopper for providing her home for this event. In order to allow hosts to set-up, please DO NOT arrive prior to the ball’s conclusion.  Thank you!

Dear ALL!

Thanks to the help and support of so many, we are able to provide these conveniences in the hope that it will make your evening more enjoyable.  Our hope is that we will be able to provide these services and bring you an even stronger event year after year.  As you may be aware, we are an all-volunteer, non-profit organization and a new one at that!  If this event is something you would like to see continued and you are able to help as a volunteer on a committee and/or as a SUPPORTER, please know that your support WILL be appreciated AND noticed.  Please see tabs at left for Volunteer Opportunities and Friends of the Ball (Giving Opportunities).

Our sincere thanks and we look forward to seeing you at the ball.
