The Flora Macdonald Ball Committee is pleased to anounce that we have the following individuals on board to call the evening dances on October 7th.
Calling and Briefing Dances
Elaine Brunken, Robert Cromartie, Louie Cromartie,
Stella Fogg, Patricia Johnston, Jack Pressley,
Eilean Yates, Barbara Youngman
While dances such as the waltz and two step will not require instruction or calling, the traditional Scottish Country Dances and Contra Dances will be either briefed, called or quickly taught. Those with no dance experience at all are especially encouraged to participate in the waltzes, and beginner/no-experience necessary Contra and Scottish dances noted on the ball program. The beginner dances will be taught. If a dance is noted as "Advanced," this is a dance you may want to watch. There are only a few of these dances, so you will NOT be sitting out for long!
Those with experience in Scottish Country and Contra Dancing should feel comfortable dancing most if not all of the dances on the program. We also encourage those with more experience to dance with less experienced dancers or beginner dancers for the dances being taught. Our hope is to give everyone an opportunity to participate while also having a few more complicated dances which can be enjoyed by those with several years of experience.
For more information see the Ball Program tab at left. Also, please note that some of the dances will be taught in Dance Workshops being held during the day at the Flora Macdonald Highland Games and if there is enough interest we may hold a few classes in the Red Springs area (either Laurinburg, Southern Pines or Red Springs) several weeks before the ball for those who would like to learn some of the intermediate or advanced dances. If you think you might be interested in participating in one of these classes, please contact us at macdonaldball@aol.com.
As with similar balls, there will be some who choose not to dance. If this is you, rest assured that the music and watching these dance forms can be almost as much fun as participating! Also, there will be areas setup for Alumni and friends to gather and reminisce.
We hope to see you in October!
