The Flora Macdonald Legacy Foundation is a relatively new nonprofit organization comprised of graduates of the three educational institutions of learning that have shared the Flora Macdonald Campus (Flora Macdonald College, Vardell Hall, & Flora Macdonald Academy) along with community leaders who wish to preserve and promote an appreciation for the rich culture and history of this region. We sponsor various events throughout the year, produce an annual newsletter and produce an annual ball in October of each year (Please note that the next ball will not be until October of 2008).  For more information on the foundation and those involved visit the page titled "About Us."  If interested in supporting the mission of the foundation please visit the page titled "Giving."  Your support and interest is appreciated!

HISTORY OF VARDELL HALL

Vardell Hall opened on the Flora Macdonald Campus in 1964 and was named for the first President of Flora Macdonald College, Dr. Charles Vardell.  A girl’s preparatory school and junior college, Vardell Hall was in operation for ten years and holds many fond memories for those who attend school on the campus.

Vardell Hall Alma Mater

Proud of our heritage, we face now the Future
determined to build, not to rest,

On the past, with vigor and vision
We reach toward tomorrow,

As molders of patterns and aims that shall last.

Here on this campus from each generation

Come girls who salute Vardell Hall as their home
We share in one purpose.

To strenghten ideals and to make them our own.

Thus Alma Mater grows strong in the knowledge
Of daughters' devotion supporting her aims,

Our lives blessed by training received on her campus,
We stand now united to honor her name

Typical of Scottish Balls, the Flora Macdonald Ball will begin with a Grand March.
As you see, this should be familiar to many Vardell Hall graduates.  Here is a Grand
March from one of the Carolina Military Academy's Balls in neighboring Maxton.
Vardell Hall and the military academy often sponsored events together.  Wonder if
any of the fellows are free on October 7th!
